Which Best Buy? This large island model from Elica was great at getting rid of steam. It's good at extracting grease in its dishwasher proof stainless steel filters and is also good at capturing and extracting cooking odours. The Elica is made of both stainless steel and glass; the chimney is steel and the canopy is glass. We found that the chimney and the glass canopy were both very easy to clean.

At 100 cms wide, the Elica Glacier island is one of the largest hoods we tested - it's suitable for use over a range style cooker with six burners. It can be set up to work in both re-circulation and extraction mode and illuminates your hob with halogen lamps. We like the front facing controls - in common with other island and chimney hoods they are conveniently positioned on the front panel of the machine which makes them easy to reach.
